Independent inquiry. Shared purpose.
Our environment.
Our health.
One connected story.
From the water around us to the microbes within it, we study the connections that shape a healthier Bangladesh.

Good science starts
with questions
close to home.
In Bangladesh, environmental health and human health share the same water.
BILSER brings together expertise in microbial ecology, pathogen genomics, food and nutritional science, and environmental health. Our purpose is to build locally relevant evidence that researchers and public health decision-makers can use.
We are a newly established, independent nonprofit scientific initiative based in Pabna, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Our ambition is long term: connect field questions with laboratory investigation, develop collaborative research, and make the resulting knowledge accessible.

A 2021 study co-authored by Prof. Faruque examined environmental Vibrio cholerae in Bangladesh and bacterial signalling through autoinducer-2. It connects our interest in aquatic environments with the biology of infectious disease.

Credibility is a practice.
Ask precisely.
Study specific mechanisms: how biofilms help bacteria persist, how phages influence pathogens, and how genetic elements carry resistance.
Credit accurately.
Distinguish researchers’ publication histories from BILSER outputs. Keep original affiliations, DOI links, and publication records visible.
Build responsibly.
Develop projects with clear investigator roles, accurate funding disclosures, and ethics and biosafety review where required.
Our operating status, openly stated.
BILSER is an independent nonprofit scientific research initiative based in Pabna, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Our registration and correspondence details are listed below. Governance and financial disclosures will be added as they are formalised.
